Tea Laborers agitated demanding the implementation of wages act
The tea laborers of Ilam are in agitation demanding the implementation of minimum wages and labor act-2074 and social security act determined by the government. The laborers are in agitation from September 2 after the tea garden management committee and tea industries did not implemented the wages and labor act and social security act published by the government in Nepal Gazette.
On September 2, the laborers have handed over the memorandum to CDO demanding the implementation of the act. They showed black flag with slogans on it as protest according to the labor leader Umesh Regmi.
The government had published the minimum wages of tea laborer in Nepal Gazette on August 16 with the enforcement of it from July 17.
As per the Gazette the minimum wages of labor is 6,469 and other allowance is 4,312. Similarly, daily wage is determined as 385 and 51 Rupees as per hour. The gazette has stated that extra Rs 42 on minimum wages must be provided to the laborer.
