Strike enforced by (UDMF) affected life of the people
Regular life of the people in Saptari along with few other districts has been adversely affected due to the strike called byUnited Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on March 7. The strike is enforced to protest against the death of 3 UDMF cadres who were killed in police firing on March 6 when the alliance of the Madhes-based parties attempted to disrupt the Mechi – Mahakali campaign of CPN (UML), at the Rajbiraj industrial zone.
According to Saptari District Representative, Manohar Pokharel, the UDMF cadres took out demonstrations and burned tyres in Rajbiraj, Rupani, Kanchanpur, Bhardaha, Hanuman Nagar along with other places of the district from early morning. Markets, educational institution, Transportation, factories and industries have been closed due to strike. Front cadres demonstrated circling the district administration office of Rajbiraj. Police have deployed security personnel at various places across the district however the general people are tensed and terrified due to incident of the previous day.
Meanwhile, The cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front vandalized and pelted stones at the jeep (Ba 7 Cha 7473) belonging to National Human Rights Commission who was monitoring the situation. The four-wheeler of Janakpur regional Office of commission was heading to District court when Madhesi Front cadres vandalized it- said Human right officer of the commission, Rewa Regmi. Sri Ram Karki, 45 residing in Kathmandu Metropolitancity-8 Mulpani was injured in the incident. Chief District Officer Uddhav Timilsina and SP Dibesh Lohani has been called to Prime Minister’s office on March 7.
According to Siraha District Representative, Durga Pariyar, District headquarter Siraha along with Lahan, Gol Bazaar, Mirchaiya, Sukhipur and other major places, traffic, educational institutions, markets and factories are closed. Even government offices are obstructed. Likewise,
According to Lahan Area Police Office, the Madhesi Front Cadres on March 6 arsoned the truck (Na 4 Kha 207) which was heading to Birgunj from Siraha as well as Golbazaar Area Police Office informed that a truck with Indian number plate (WB 52 A 4013) was set on fire by the UDMF cadres in Siraha district.
According to Sunsari District Representative, Sekhar Dhakal, The strike has affected Duhabi, Inaruwa, Laukahi along with other places of the Sunsari district whereas the Itahari and Dharan Sub-metropolitan city are not affected.
According to Morang District Representative, Indira Bhattarai, The markets are transportations are closed in Biratnagar, Karsiya, Rangeli and Rani along with other places. The educational institutions were also closed later when the Madhesi Cadre started to shut down the schools.
According to Rautahat District Representative, Bipin Gautam, Madhesi leaders and cadres of the Madhes-centric parties disrupted the long and short route vehicular traffic in district headquarters Gaur from early morning whereas the private and government schools are also closed.
Government offices of district headquarters are seen deserted since the vehicles are stranded. The transportations, shops, businesses and schools in East-west highways are not stopped even though it is stopped in headquarter. No unfavourable incidents have taken place although Madhesi cadres have been demonstrating by burning tyres in the major markets i.e. Garuda, Katahariya and Matsari since morning- informed by District Police Office, Rautahat.
According to Parsa District Representative, KC Lamichhane, Madhesi cadres are protesting from early morning in Birgunj. They are burning tyres in main markets around Clock tower, Darsan nagar, Chapkaiya, Murli along with Ramgadhawa, Power house Chowkand new Bus Park which why all the shops are closed as well as vehicular movement and industries are also affected.
General police and armed forces are deployed in large number considering the possible insecurities and to prevent any mishaps from happening. No unfavorable incidents have taken place in the district- said police officials.
According to Sarlahi District Representative, Santosh Kumar Singh, The regular life of the people in Sarlahi district is affected due to the strike. No long route and short route vehicles are running from Malangawa. All the educational institution is closed in highway area whereas the schools in southern area from the highway are open.
According to Mahottari District Representative, Ajay Kumar Shah, The Madhesi Cadre has burnt tyres in major area of Jaleswor. No long and short route public vehicles of east-west highway are running. Schools, Markets and industries are also closed.
According to Bardiya District Representative, Man Bahadur Chaudhary, The Gulariya market is completely closed and educational institutions are not running.
According to Banke District Representative, Binod Pandey, The transportation are stranded due to strike whereas few markets are open. Educational institutions are also closed. The Madhesi cadres have gathered with banner in Dhambojhi Chowk of Nepalgunj, Sonpur of Gulariya road section and Tribhuwan chowk. They have been protesting stating that they will stop the local level election if conducted without constitutional amendment.
