Schools in Bulingtar Rural Municipality-6 were closed demanding the release of principal Om Kumar Shrestha of Shiva Secondary School who was arrested on charge of beating student Khuman Sarki of standard 10. At least 44 schools in this municipality were closed by the Nepal Teachers Association affiliated to Nepali Congress demanding his release.
This has affected the student’s study. On September 18, student Sarki was beaten by the accused on charge of coming late in the assembly injuring his ear.
He was arrested on September 27 by the Area Police Office of Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta east after the complaint against him was lodged on September 21.
He is under investigation after district court remanded him. The victim’s family had protested in front of the District Administration Office on October 3 against the politicizing of the incident and attempting to give immunity to the accused.
Madhav Pradhan , chairperson of Children Peace Zone Campaign on October 6 drew the attention stating that closing schools despite of taking action to the teacher is against the rule of law.
