President Bidya Devi Bhandari is set to register her candidacy for the March 13 presidential election, today.
President Bhandari has reached the liaison office of the Election Commission (EC) located at International Convention Centre in New Baneshwor to file her candidacy, said President’s Chief Personal Secretary Bhesh Raj Adhikari.
Similarly, the Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held today at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur, has decided to field Laxmi Rai as the main contender against President Bhandari, according to Govinda Pariyar, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s press coordinator.
The EC has set today’s 3:00 pm as the deadline for filing the candidacy and the final list of candidates will be published tomorrow at 6:00 pm. The presidential election will be held on March 13. Voters will cast their votes between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Presidential election is being held for the third time in the country. Ram Baran Yadav was elected the first president in 2008, while Bhandari was elected head of state in 2015.
