Police Charged for Torture
The District Court has ordered to take departmental action against three policemen on charge of torturing shop entrepreneur Raj Kumar Gupta,32 of Bairawa VDC-1 while in custody.
The court has ordered to take action against former Inspector Megh Raj Thapa of Area Police Office of Kanchanpur, and two policemen Jhanak Bastola and Srawan Kamat along with a compensation of Rs 15,000.
A single bench of District Court judge Pashupati Acharya has given a verdict regarding the case.
The victim who was arrested under illicit drugs Act on July 1 had lodged a complaint at District Court demanding justice against torture on September 6, 2015.
According to the victim’s complaint, he was severely tortured by the police inside custody for 60 days. The victim however will be charged under illicit drug Act along with Rs 300,000 as a penalty.
