Office of the Attorney General and INSEC Team Monitors Prison

The office of attorney general, INSEC, District Bar Unit, FNJ and other organizations have monitored district prison, district police office and area police of Kalyanpur on September 28.

Sub-attorney general Geeta Prasad Timsina, Khem Raj Gyawali, Tikendra Dahal, assistant district attorney Badri Kumar Karki, INSEC district representative Manohar Kumar Pokhrel have monitored detention center, custody of DPO and discussed the problems with detainees and inmates.

According to INSEC district representative Manohar Kumar Pokhrel, the district prison has a capacity to accommodate 125 prisoners and detainees however there are 317 inmates and detainees in the prison. There are 21 women with two dependents. The prison building is very old and inmates are compelled to live in a worst condition due to the over capacity according to prison guard Jitendra Prasad Yadav. According to him, there are four lunatic inmates living.

Similarly, according to INSEC district representative Durga Pariyar of Siraha, the representatives from office of the attorney general have monitored the district prison on September 27. The team included sub-attorney general Geeta Prasad Timsina, Khem Raj Gyawali, INSEC district representative, activists and media personnel.

As per the Act 158 of the constitution, the office of the attorney general has a right to monitor prison and custody of DPO said sub-attorney general Geeta Prasad Timsina.

The District Prison has a capacity to accommodate 135 prisoners however there are 335 prisoners and detainees. They are facing difficulties due to the over capacity.
