Nirmala Pant Murder case: Locals demonstrates demanding fair investigation
Agitating locals have enforced a shutdown in Bhimduttanagar Bazaar (Mahendra Nagar), accusing police of failing to investigate the recent murder of a 13-year-old Nirmala Pant who was killed after rape .
Nirmala Pant, a resident of Bhimdutta-2, was found dead in a sugarcane farm along the Mahendranagar-Ultakham road on July 26. According to reports, the deceased was allegedly raped by her murderers.
The protest comes a day after District Police Office organized a press conference to say that Dilip Singh Bista, 41, of Bhimdutta -19, was the main accused in the crime. However, locals are not convinced as they claim he is a lunatic. They have accused the police of trying to frame him in the case.
Civil society organizations and human rights defenders have been mounting pressure on the police to reveal the facts behind the heinous crime.
