Commission urges government to save Gangamaya’s life
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government again to be sensitive to save the life of Gangamaya, who has been fast-onto-death for a month quoting RSS.
The NHRC made such request to the government by meeting Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai and Inspector General of Nepal Police, Sarbendra Khanal.
During the meeting, NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma told the high level government officials and IGP that the health condition of Gangamaya was deteriorating day by day, so the government needs to be serious to save her life.
Chairman Sharma urged them to implement the Supreme Court verdict and bring to book the culprits by bringing the fugitive in country by issuing red corner notice or any diplomatic channel.
In response, Home Secretary Rai made it clear that the government was always serious to protect Gangamaya’s life and would take immediate measure to end the impunity.
Similarly, IGP Khanal informed that efforts were underway to bring back the fugitives to country by issuing red corner notice, so that court verdict would be implemented.
Then rebellion CPN Maoist’s cadres had killed Gangamaya’s son Krishna Prasad Adhikari in Chitwan after abduction. On which, the SC had issued verdict to keep in prison the accused one Chhabi Lal Poudel, but it not implemented yet. She has been on strike reasoning why the court decision was not implemented.
NHRC Member Sudip Pathak reminded the government that Gangamaya was resolute that she would not quit the strike till the government addressed her demand.
As she became sick due to strike, she has been admitted to ICU of Bir Hosptial
