The National Human Rights Commission Nepal (NHRCN) has conducted pre-election monitoring on eastern part of the country. The commission has conducted the monitoring in Arghakhanchi on june 2 regarding the human rights situation of the district.
A team led by Human Rights Officer Anish Kumar Paudel of Butwal sub-regional office of NHRC had met CDO Dilli Raj Regmi, DSP Eek Narayan Koirala, Chief election officer Keshav Prasad Bastola, chief of District Election Office Mahesh Pandey and security bodies of the district and gathered the pre-election human rights situation of the district.
During the monitoring, NHRC had concerned about the security situation, challenges, implementation situation of Code of conduct, voter’s education and political activities of the party that are not participating the election.
Officer Anil Kumar Paudel of the commission said that the human rights situation of the district was found to be normal during the monitoring. He further said that the security bodies are alert about the possible violence or incident during the election and voter’s education is effectively operating in the district.
The monitoring team had stressed the political parties to follow the election code of conduct during their monitoring.
The Chief District Officer of Arghakhanchi district said that there are no major incidents in the district due to the sensitivity of the security body. The monitoring team included NHRC human rights officer Manish Paudel, Kalpana Nepal, Bimal Lakhe and INSEC district representative.
