Male Inmates and Detainees at Risk Due to the delay in Building Construction

The inmates and detainees of the district prison of Palpa are at risk as they are living under old building.

The construction of new building was agreed to be accomplished in 2011 June 30 however not even 70 percent of the work has been done yet. The division engineer Hari Bhakta Shrestha said that due to the delay in work from construction entrepreneurs, the work could not be accomplished on time.

The prison was built in B.S 1983 and most of the old buildings are in very worst condition. They might demolish at anytime. The inmates and detainees were kept in a old building after a normal renovation after last years earthquake.

The “C” graded building has a capacity to accommodate 300 inmates and detainees. For women inmate and detainees there are no problem as they have been shifted to newly built buildings however the problem is for male inmates and detainees as there are over capacity and living in a old building according to jailer Sujata Karki.
