Incidents of child rape and sexual abuse in an increasing trend

In Saptari, 36 girls were victims of rape and 14 girls were victims of sexual abuses from January to December.

The District Police of Saptari said that in 35 incidents, 36 girls and in 14 incidents of sexual abuse, 14 girls were victims during the period.

According to the documentation 12 girls under the age of 11 were victims of rape and seven girls under the age of 12 were victims of sexual abuses.

Similarly, 45 people were accused of rape and 17 of sexual abuses. Among those seven accused are under the age of 16 and 24 accused are between the age of 18 to 22. In an incident of sexual abuses, 10 accused are under the age of 18 according to police data.

Among those, 17 accused of child rape are remanded in custody and two have been recently arrested.

Three accused were acquitted by District Court and one accused was acquitted by the high court of Rajbiraj.

According to police, one accused of rape is released on a bail amount and other seven are still absconding and complaint against them is registered at court.

Similarly, out of 17 accused of sexual abuses, one has been given sentence and five remains in custody.

This year the trend of rape on intellectually disabled girl and child rape has been increased according to police.
