In three months 21 women including children raped
In Saptari district, 21 women were victim of rape in the financial year 2017/18. This includes three years old girl up to 70 years old elderly woman.
In three months period, 13 women were victims of rape, eight complaints were lodged against sexual abuse and attempted rape which includes sexual abuse on three years old girl and rape on 70 years old woman according to District Police Office of Saptari.
Out of 13 incidents of rape, eight victims are under 18 years and remaining are aged from 20 to 70 according to SP Rajendra Bista. In case of attempted rape ,one 35 years old woman was victim and remaining seven are girls.
The accused of attempted rape are aged from 16 to 65 years whereas the age group of accused on attempted rape and sexual abuse are also of the same age as per police data.
Police said that six of the accused are in custody for investigation and three are arrested. One accused is released by the order from the high court where as eight of the accused are still absconding.
Similarly, out of eight accused on attempted rape and sexual abuse, one is remanded in custody ,four are released on bail and other three are absconding.
Majority of accused are found to be a close acquaintances and neighbors and majority of victims were lured , threatened before abusing them as per police.
