Human Rights Help Desk Established In Karnali Province
A human rights help desk has been set up on September 9 with the objective of providing rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and necessary assistance to the human rights defenders at risk and the victims of serious human rights violations.
A seven-member human rights help desk has been set up by INSEC Karnali Provincial Office Surkhet and National Human Rights Commission Branch Office Jumla in the presence of human rights activists, civil society organizations, and media persons.
Among the members of the committee are Uttam Acharya, chairperson of High Court Bar, Madhurani Dhakal, Dipendra Sharma, General Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Karnali Pradesh, Bishnu Sharma, president of National Federation of the Handicapped Karnali Province, Tikaram Acharya, Executive Director of Social Awareness Centre (SAC), Khagisara Oli, Secretary of Dalit Women Organization Surkhet and INSEC Karnali Provincial Office’s Documentation Officer Tika Bista.
INSEC Karnali Province Coordinator Narayan Subedi said that Ramesh Kumar Thapa, Acting Director of National Human Rights Commission Jumla has been appointed as the observer of the Human Rights Help Desk. In the program facilitated by Coordinator Subedi, INSEC Central Office Program Coordinator Sarita Puri highlighted the objective of the program and informed about the guidelines of the Human Rights Help Desk.
Thapa, acting director of the National Human Rights Commission Jumla, said that the commission and INSEC have been cooperating in the promotion of human rights protection.
The participants in the program discussed the need for sustainability of the Human Rights Help Desk and stressed the need for consensus on human rights violations and abuses.
