Free Medicine crunch in Chitwan

There has been a shortage in essential free medicine in Chitwan. The district public health office is not able to provide essential medicine to the primary health center and health posts due to the shortages in medicine.

“ I came to get 31 types of free medicine provided by the government”, says Assistant Health Worker Prakash Lamichhane Patihani Primary Health Post showing a file and complaining that the office is not able to provide the essential medicine. He added that there are increasing numbers of Pneumonia patients in the district and there are shortages of medicine related to the disease.

The patients are compelled to buy free medicine from local pharmacy due to the shortages in free medicine, he said.

In Health Center there are maximum numbers of Citamol used and the office is not able to provide it, he said. In the district there are three hospitals, three health posts and 42 Primary health center.

Among them, the Bharatpur hospital, Bakulahar Hospital and Baghauda Hospital are buying medicine directly from the center.

The government has been providing 70 types of free medicine in hospital,  58 types in Primary Health Center and sub-health center. Similarly, in Jutpani, Kahairhani and Shivanagar , 38 types of free medicine is distributed however in almost all health centers there is a crunch of free medicines.
