Ensure Conflict Victims’ Right to Justice: Commission
The Bagmati Provincial Office of the National Human Rights Commission has drawn the attention of the government to ensure the right of conflict victims to justice.
The Bagmati Provincial Office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been monitoring the health condition of Ganga Maya Adhikari, who has been on a hunger strike at the Bir Hospital Trauma Centre demanding action against the culprit involved in the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari.
The press release issued by the Chief Joint Secretary of the Bagmati Provincial Office of the Commission, Yagya Prasad Adhikari, stated that her health condition was deteriorating.
It is recalled in the press release that the National Human Rights Commission has recommended to the Government of Nepal on April 5, 2008, to investigate the incident and take action against the culprits and provide compensation to the families of the victims.
The statement also said that human rights violations during the armed conflict, such as the murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari, which has not been settled for a long time, need to be investigated as soon as possible.
The statement also said that the Bagmati Provincial Office of the Commission has written to the Ministry of Health and Population to make necessary arrangements and coordination for her life.
Therefore, the commission has drawn the attention of the Government of Nepal to take immediate and effective steps for the protection of the life of Ganga Maya Adhikari by ensuring her right to justice and to abide by the commitments made by the previous government.
