Domestic Violence Victim Rescued After INSEC’s Reference

Jamuna Rana (21) of Bangad Kupinde Municipality-5 has been rescued and moved to a safe shelter after the reference of INSEC.

The victim was beaten and abandoned from her house by husband Lokendra Rawat (24), elder broter-in-law Kamal Rawat (32), middle brother-in-law Sakubir Rawat (26), elder sister-in-law Bimala Rawat (29) and father-in-law Buddhi Rawat (71). She has been staying with her neighbours from the past two years.

The victim informed INSC’s representative that after their behaviour towards her, she had filed a case at District Court on 5 November 2019 for divorce with property division.

After the case was registered, the victim was forced to leave the neighbours’ house and all the food grains she had produced was also taken away from her after which the victim filed a complaint at the Municipality’s legal committee on 17 June 2020, informed victim Rana.

On 19 June, both the parties were counselled and sent back after reconciliation, informed Manju Yari, coordinator of the legal committee and deputy chief of the municipality. According to the victim, she was beaten after returning from the committee.

After knowing about the recent condition of the case, Mayor Govinda Kumar Pun asked INSEC for legal consultation and security for the victim as the case was in legal processing and he couldn’t do anything about it.

After INSEC’s reference, the victim was taken to a safe home. INSEC informed DSP Dhakendra Khatiwada about the incident after which he said he will be investigating further about the incident.

Since the case is in legal proceeding, we will coordinate with court for justice, added Khatiwada.
