“Do not Obstruct Election campaign”: NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal has drawn its serious attention on the rampant incidents of bomb and bullet attack on candidates during their election campaign in Rukum, Rolpa, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Gorkha including other places.
The commission while releasing a press statement on November 15 has stated that” news have been received on putting black flag in the house of candidates, capturing properties, threatening voters with the intention of obstructing the election by the cadres of Nepal Communist Party. Such activities have violated the rights of candidate to disseminate election in a peaceful manner along with the rights of voters to cast their vote in a fair, free and fearless environment”.
The statement further says,” free, fair and periodic election is synonymous of democracy. It is citizen’s responsibility to respect this and those violating these rights must be brought under legal boundary.”
The commission has urged all political parties not to create such environment which can violate citizen’s right to vote and demanded to adopt patience while doing election campaign. The commission has also urged government to provide adequate security and safety of candidate so that they can operate their election campaign in a fearless environment.
