Discussion held on Human Rights Defender’s situation

INSEC district representative Man Bahadur Chaudhary of Bardiya said that the discussion program on the situation of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and their issues has been organized on February 27.

The discussion with human rights defenders were held in Bardiya district by INSEC , NHRC, COCAP, Blue Diamond Society Nepal and a team from French Embassy.

The participants said that the human rights defender’s situation is seen to be satisfactory in surficial however in state’s body there are issues of human rights violation.

There has been no direct physical threat to the human rights defenders while advocating however, in reality they are indirectly facing verbal abuses.

INSEC coordinator Khadga Raj Joshi of Dhangadhi, said that the discussion program was held to recommend government, security body, civil society and international human rights channel on the issues with the objective of minimizing the threat and abuses to human rights defenders.

According to INSEC district representative Komal Niranjan Bhat of Kanchanpur, similar discussion was held in MahendraNagar on February 27. The discussion was held by Eu working group on Human Rights Defenders with the objective of finding out the major issues of HRDs.

The field visit program was participated by the representatives from French embassy, EU, Danish embassy, Finish embassy, INSEC central office, COCAP, Blue diamond society and representatives from NHRC.
