Death Of A Child Due To Lack Of Treatment

Sushil Kumar Sah, a nine-year-old resident of Sukhipatra in Baragadhi Gaonpalika-2 of Bara district died at the National Medical College in Birgunj on August 11 due to lack of treatment.

The victim, was suffering from fever, diarrhoea and vomiting and was taken to Birgunj for treatment by his father on August 9 but was not admitted to any hospitals. Later with the help of the police, he was admitted to the National Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Birgunj on August 10.

Upendra Sah, the brother-in-law of the deceased, alleged that Sushil died as the doctors did attend him even after the admission.

After falling ill with diarrhoea and vomiting, Umesh Sah and Upendra Sah initially took him to the National Medical College but the ICU room was not empty and doctors advised him to go to Terai Hospital.

They rushed him to Terai Hospital, LS Neuro Hospital, Bhavani Hospital and Narayani Hospital but all of them refused to admit him saying that the ICU was not empty.

Upendra said that the college made them buy two sets of PPE for the treatment.

After buying PPE, a doctor came to see the child at around 8 pm and prescribed some medicine, said Upendra. The corona test report of the child was negative. The report came after his death.

Meanwhile, Basarudin Ansari, managing director of the teaching hospital, said that the child died while undergoing treatment.

He also clarified that the ICU at the teaching hospital was not empty. He said that he was admitted to the teaching hospital after returning from all the hospitals in Birgunj but could not be saved.
