Court Declares 12 years’ Imprisonment to Rape Accused

District court has sentenced a 14-year-old boy to 12 years and six months in prison for raping a four-year-old girl.

A bench of Judge Deepak Khanal declared him guilty. The victim was provided Rs. 10,000 as compensation from the Victim Relief Fund.

According to the order, it has been decided to send the child to the Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre in Biratnagar and will be sent to prison after reaching a suitable age.

Another convict of the same incident, an 11-year-old boy, has been declared a minor and the rest of his imprisonment has been postponed, said Raj Kumar Acharya, Information Officer of the court. According to Acharya, the 11-year-old boy has been remanded in police custody and in the custody of his relatives since the date of his arrest.

The victim had lodged a complaint at the District Police Office on March 20 accusing the accused of raping the girl.

Based on the complaint of the victim, the police arrested the accused from their house on March 17, 2020, and took legal action against them.

The district court had ordered to keep the accused with his parents for trial on May 2 after the child could not be sent to the rehabilitation centre due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The girl was examined at the District Hospital on March 19, 2020.
