Consumers in crisis due to the lack of effective market monitoring

The consumer’s of the district are in crisis after the concerned body has failed to do the market monitoring. They are facing difficulties especially after the festival is approaching and there is no market monitoring done by the concerned body yet.

In past, District Administration Office used to operate market monitoring in coordination and at present separate monitoring mechanism has been formed in a local level however the monitoring is not effective and continuous.

Consumer’s rights and protection forum chairperson Sita Ramm Bajgain of Tanahu said that consumers are in crisis due to the lack of market monitoring especially sue to the approaching hindu festivals. He added that the market monitoring in the local level could not be effective because consumers and rights activists are not included in the monitoring mechanism.

Khem Raj Adhikari,chair of National Consumer’s Forum of Tanahu said that there is high chances that consumers being cheated due to the lack of market monitoring.

Assistant CDO Tulsi Ram Paudel said that local level has been requested to continue market monitoring. Vice mayor Meera Joshi of Vyas Municipality said that the mechanism could not operate properly due to the lack of manpower and resources. She added that monitoring will be made effective targeting the upcoming festivals.
