Complaint Lodged demanding for voiding Child marriage

The victim’s party of bride at has lodged a complaint at Police office on August 7 demanding to void the child marriage conducted at Triveni Village council-4, Raku Serijula of Kalikot District which has been announced as a child marriage free village.

The child marriage between 14 years old girl of Triveni Village Council-4 and 15 years old boy of the same place was celebrated on July 12. The victim’s party of a girl has lodged a complaint at police post of Mungra for voiding the marriage. The victim’s duo involved in a marriage is studying in 10th standard in local school.

Ruku, Manma, Pakha, Daha, Chapre, Jubitha, Kalika, Sukatiya, Rachuli along with nine VDCs were declared as child marriage free VDCs formally last year however parents are equally involved in a child marriage nowadays.

The District Education Officer Bishnu Tiwari said that the schools of the district were banned on using social network sites such as Face book as it has motivated the child marriage.

Police claimed that they are successful on stopping child marriage in some places however the case of Ruku is not known to the police according to acting police chief Rajendra Shrestha of DPO Kalikot. He further said that due to the involvement of parents in a marriage, it has been difficult on completely stopping the marriage.

As per the child rights covenant, people under 18 are known as child and the act has banned child under 18 for marriage in Nepal.
