Children living with their mother inside the prison are deprived of education

Children of inmates and detainees doing their jail term inside the District Prison of Morang are deprived of education.

The school going age children are deprived of study as there are no schools nearby and they do not have an environment to go to school.

The government has established children nurturing centre, development centre however children are not being able to entertain this services.

In the district prison, all eight children living with their mother are under five years old. Five years old Raj Bir Mandal , who is living inside the prison with his mother haven’t seen school yet. His mother said that it would be nice if her child can go to development centre or school.

One of the detainees Kabita Rai said that the school going age of her four years old son is elapsing as her case is still not decided.

Krishna was born in Sankhuwasabha prison and he is not going to development centre despite of his age. There are no schools for the children living with their parents inside the prison in province1 but if they can be taken to Birgunj in their parent’s will according to jailer Bhim Raj Pokhrel.

Pokhrel said that four years old Krishna is being sent for formal education with institutional initiation.

Jailer Pokhrel said that there is a security challenges if children are sent to school from the prison. For this even parents haven’t demanded yet according to him.
