The part-time teacher’s union has sabotaged office of the Campus Chief of Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara Metropolitan-1 on 7 August 2020.

Stating that the campus administration did not attend to their demands, the teachers affiliated to the union vandalized the office.

They have destroyed the windows and furniture of the office and the office is padlocked at present.

They have demanded to appoint the part-time teachers to contract-appointed teachers. Most of them have been working as the part-time teachers from the past 14 years.

Chairperson of the Part-time Teachers’ Union, Sunil Gautam informed that 70% of the classes in the campus is taken by the part-time teachers yet they are paid minimum wage.

“If our demands are not heard, we will protest more vigorously. We have been suffering for 14 years,” he said.

According to Gautam, the incident took place when no campus chief was interested in resolving the issue of part-time teachers who have been protesting at various stages for a long time demanding contract appointment.

Campus Chief Prof. Dr Saroj Koirala said that discussions are being held with the Centre and the issue will be resolved.

There are currently 220 part-time teachers working on the campus.
