Bring the Convicts of Murder to Justice: Commission
According to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC serious attention has been drawn to the murder of Rajendra Kumar Shrestha in Miklajung Rural Municipality-1 of Morang on November 9.
The commission has issued a press release on November 9, 2020, regarding the murder of the principal of Saraswati Primary School.
The commission has urged not to arbitrarily arrest and torture any person on the basis of beliefs and suspicions. It has also requested the Government of Nepal to bring the culprits involved in the incident to justice and provide appropriate compensation to the families of the victims.
The commission has reminded that the provincial office of the commission is monitoring the incident. According to a press statement issued by the Mechi-Koshi Bureau of the Communist Party of Nepal, the commission has stated that the murder was committed by the cadres of the same party. The commission has expressed regret over the incident of a serious crime like murder.
Nepal’s constitution guarantees freedom of thought and expression and the right to life with dignity. The commission has also reminded every citizen of the right to express their political views, assemble unarmed, demonstrate peacefully, and express dissent peacefully through the constitution.
The Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Commission, Dr. Krishna Kumar, urged the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-UML) not to be intolerant of those who disagree with its views and not to resort to killings and violence and to respect the right to life of every person. It is mentioned in the release issued by Tikaram Pokharel.
