The locals of Laxminagar Primary Health Centre in Jorayal Rural Municipality have complained of facing problems due to lack of doctors for the past two years.

Although the health centre is supposed to have a doctor and 12 health workers, due to their absence, the locals of the area are facing problems.

Krishna Raj Joshi, a local, said that he had to go to the district headquarters Dipayal Silgadhi for general treatment as the post of a doctor at Laxminagar Primary Health Centre was vacant and the staff of the office did not come to the health post regularly.

Kalpana Madai, a local, said, “Locals are suffering due to lack of services from health posts.” For basic health treatment, one has to go to District Hospital, Doti, Kailali District Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi, Padma Hospital, Attaria and Sub-Regional Hospital, Dadeldhura.

Despite the rural municipality is coordinating with the provincial government to fill the vacancies in the health posts, the problem has not been resolved, said Govinda Bista, head of the rural health unit.

Jamuna Bohara, the vice-chairperson of the rural municipality, said that the general public was in trouble after the doctors refused to come to the primary health centre due to the distant geography.

He said, “We have written to the Ministry of Social Development of the provincial government to deploy doctors in primary health centres.” However, despite assurances to send a doctor, the problem has not been resolved. There is a constant ongoing effort to solve the problem. ‘
