Appeal to stop Kumar Lama’s Promotion
The Accountability Watch Committee (AWC) has drawn its serious attention over the decision made by the ministry cabinet on August 15 to promote Kumar Lama as a Brigadier General in Nepal army.
The committee through a press release on September 14 has stated that the Kapilvastu Court has convicted him of Human Rights violation and it is against the law to promote him.
Colonel Lama was also arrested and tried in the UK for his alleged involvement in torture in Shivadal Barrack, Kapilvastu. The statement further said that promoting alleged perpetrators without letting them the opportunity to clear their name reinforces impunity and weakens rule of law. The AWC through a press release has demanded for the immediate withhold of the decision to promote him in the post of Brigadier General of Nepal Army.
