The Accountability Watch Committee has showed its concern on draft relating to the transitional justice that was made public to replace the previous act of CIEDP and TRC.

Releasing a press statement on July 2, the AWC said that publicizing the draft for discussion and counselling prior to the registration in parliament is a positive step.

“This draft has a long term effect in context of Nepal’s transitional justice and we urge that to make it public for the discussion and counselling up to the provincial level”, the statement says.

The statement further said that “The proposed draft which came after a long wait still fails to cover the sentiment of Nepal Constitution, SC verdict, Universal norms of Human rights, international laws and principles of transitional justice”.

Save life of Gangamaya

The committee has appealed the government to enforce the SC verdict and follow the rule of law by saving life of Gangamaya who has been staging fast-on-to death strike demanding the action against the murderer of her son during the armed conflict.

“ Gangamaya is in undeclared custody of the government and it will be the government responsibility if she dies due to the failing of government implement the court’s verdict”, statement says.

It has appealed government to create favorable environment to save life of Gangamaya and create credibility on transitional justice.
