” Bill regarding Political Party” issued with 3 percent threshold
The meeting held under the Legislature-Parliament at Singha Durbar on March 22 has determined the threshold for the political parties on the basis of majority of the parliamentarians batting for the same according to RSS.
The threshold, which had been a thorny issue for long for the political parties to decide on, determines that the political parties contesting in the upcoming local level election in May 14 this year must secure at least 3 percent seat in proportional representation category and one seat in the First Past The Post category to get the recognition as the national party.
Political parties had been holding differing views on threshold and had not been able to reach logical consequences on the same until the Committee made the final move on Wednesday.
The biggest parties in the parliament, namely Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-MC and Rastriya Prajantantra Party (RPP) had been pressing for 3 percent threshold whereas the fringe parties, including CPN-ML, Rastriya Janajagaran Party and Nepal Workers and Peasant Party among others had been disagreeing to it.
